Google opens office in Malaysia

I never thought this day would come, but it has. Google has officially announced their setting up of an office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to reports, Google will also tailor current products such as Google Maps, Google News and Google Translate for local markets.

Google Southeast Asia chief Julian Persaud said Malaysia has one of the “highest percentages of usage of Google’s Web browser, Chrome, in Asia Pacific” together with 17 million Internet users from a population of 27 million.

“The online environment in Malaysia is growing rapidly, with significant developments in both broadband Internet access and e-commerce activities,” he told reporters.

“We are pleased to establish our newest operations in Kuala Lumpur, where we can draw from the highest quality local talent to further help users find the information they’re looking for,” he added.

Is this a sign that Google AdSense will eventually have Bahasa Melayu language support? I sure hope it does. It will empower a significant number of blogs in Malaysia, most of which are by bloggers writing in Bahasa Melayu and a fast-growing niche. I am sure a lot of Malaysians are eagerly waiting for the day to arrive.

Google Analytics Master Class in Kuala Lumpur

On Thursday, I attended the Google Analytics Master Class (GAMC) at Hilton Hotel which was held for the first time in Kuala Lumpur. According to the organisers, it was previously held in Singapore in 2009 and when they saw that many Malaysians flew in to Singapore to attend the seminar, they thought that it would be a good idea to have the GAMC in both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore this year. Apparently they didn’t expect the seminar to have such a huge turnout. I, too, along with my friend Malcolm had to wait in a very long queue to enter the hall.

Took a photo of myself, since I was bored waiting for the event to start.

Google Analytics Master Class on Actionable Insights

Last week, I found out that Google is holding a Google Analytics Master Class on Actionable Insights at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. In plain English, this means that Google is holding a seminar with tips and insights from their speakers on how to better utilise the Google Analytics tool that is provided by Google.

Well, I registered for a RSVP and today, I received this confirmation letter from Google.

PayPal PowerUp Party in Kuala Lumpur

PayPal celebration party

I am sure that most of the Malaysian PayPal account holders have received their confirmation e-mail regarding the PayPal PowerUp Party which is to be held this Friday, on the 11th of December 2009. The party is to be held in conjunction with PayPal’s launch in Malaysia I saw their RSVP notice some two weeks ago when I was logging into my PayPal account, so I promptly sent an e-mail RSVP but had forgotten all about it.

That is, until I received their confirmation e-mail today. Now that I am confirmed to be on their list, I will certainly go this Friday. So have you RSVP-ed and are you going?
