Why blog to earn money?

Why even blog to earn money? Some might ask that question, wondering why on earth would anyone want to earn money from what was originally seen as a leisurely past time. That might be true back in the days when weblogs first came on the internet scene, but the blogging world has certainly moved on since then. Many bloggers do earn some income from their blogs, enough to sustain a living while at the same time pursuing what they enjoy the most: writing and maintaining their blogs. There are also those “purists” (mostly from the lifestyle genre which I personally find distasteful and disgusting) who believe that one should not be earning a single sen from their blogs, that it should remain free and away from any sort of advertising influence. You can usually identify these people, since most of them are actually opinionated enough to state their “stand” against internet marketing or any form of paid blogging on their blogs, to the extent that they are willing to shut down their blog when they are unable to pay for their domain name or hosting space.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I find it really crass when these cesspool “purists” start to rant, rave and bitch about how they are the guardians of blogging morality and ethics, and how those who have ads on their blogs or do some form of paid blogging in one way or another are “selling their souls”, so to speak. Of course, if bloggers were to follow their way, it will not be long before everyone goes bankrupt or lose interest in blogging simply because the “hobby” does not pay for itself.

Ask yourself this question: what do you think funds authors such as JK Rowlings, Stephen King and Sidney Sheldon to commit themselves to writing and produce their best-seller works? Blogging is another form of “writing” and certainly I do not see how is it a “crime” to earn money from blogging to sustain your interest full-time. After all, there are bills to pay, mouths to feed and computers to repair.

However I should caution that earning money from blogging to sustain blogging should be differentiated from blogging solely to earn money. The latter will not keep you going for very long (believe me, I tried) but the former will renew your motivation to continue blogging about the things you love and you will no longer look back onto the days where you have no choice but to rely on free blog hosting services such as Blogger or Blogsome. So for those of you who are looking to earn money from your blogging, you should ask yourself whether you are blogging solely for money or whether you are looking to earn money from blogging in order to continue doing it.

If it is the latter, then good for you and do continue blogging. I will continue sharing my experiences in future posts, God willing.

Why have a yahoo group when a blog spot page can earn money through ads and automatically send out updates to whoever signs up just as soon as you post them. Why would anyone prefer a groups page? Please explain if you know why. Thanks.
who are you “apache chief” ? I asked a question, thats what we do around here, if you don’t have an answer, then don’t pretend to so that you can harass me. jerk off
Specifically: if you can go to a blog page and ask to get emails every time a page is posted, which is what a groups page does, is there any other benefit to having/operating a groups page? I don’t know what advantages there are with having that over a blog where you can make money on your page for your group too.
tv shows on dvd: are you saying that groups pages are for selling things too? So it can be a commercial site? I think blogs can be too, if you upgrade at some sites.

well, in the end, it’ll be my big sister’s blog, but I’m the one creating it…

she’s a freshman in college and she really wants to study abroad in Europe… she’s not in a rush to do it but I’d like to help her earn money by creating a fundraiser blog for her (using paypal as the fundraiser tool)…
I’m pretty sure it would be legal since I will not misrepresent what it’s for…
In the blog, I will have her story and why she wants to study in Europe (that’s where our family came from: our maternal grandma is Polish and grandpa was a jew (they were around he same age and moved to america sometime after WW2) and our paternal grandparents are English, all of them moved here I think inbetween 1900’s-1950’s)

    her name is Melissa

If you want some extra info about it to help give it a better name just request it and I’ll put it in as additional info…

The creator of ‘The Weather Channel’ says that ‘Global Warming’ is a hoax. Why is the politics section still obsessing over it?

Why is it in the politics section of Y!Answers to start with?

Why is it a political issue at all? Doesn’t the government have other things to worry about like war, equal human rights throughout the world, people getting shot in the street, government approved robin hooding, ect…?

I’m not saying that big businesses should let loose but if you don’t like the way a company runs its business, boycott them. They’ll straighten out real quick if they don’t earn any money.

For my senior music project, I have to write a score for a scene from a film. Any scene from around 3 to 10 minutes would be excellent. It also does not matter if the scene already has music – I am allowed to edit this out and put my own music in its place. I have already searched the internet for many sad scenes and battle scenes (which would be my preferred choice of scene for writing music for), however, I am still undecided. Please help! 🙂

Tea Party Express spokesman Mark Williams has removed a post on his blog which has fueled a debate brewing over whether the tea party movement, which has taken root as a formidable social and political force, is seeded with racism

Williams didn’t help his cause when he became engaged in a heated discussion on CNN’s Larry King Live . “Racists have their own movement. It’s called the NAACP,” Williams told CNN contributor Roland Martin.

On Friday, Williams’ post including the letter to Abe Lincoln had been removed (read text below), and he called upon tea partiers and NAACP activists alike “to fight those who seek to divide us by race, no matter the color of the racist.”

In May, Williams posted and then apologized to Hindus for saying terrorists worship a “monkey god.” Following that post, Williams wrote, “In the course of the article I described the ‘god’ worshiped by terrorists as ‘a monkey god.’ I was wrong and that was offensive. I owe an apology to millions of Hindus who worship Lord Hanuman, an actual Monkey God.”

Full text of the letter posted by Mark Williams earlier this week:

    Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.

The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!

The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target coloreds. That means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.

Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.

Personal computers using the internet hit the scene in the 90's and cell phones 10 years later approx. And radically, the ice caps melt. Am I way off here? Are all of the cell towers and satellites releasing or trapping too much co2? Science people clue me in.

MBA applications always go up during a bad economy. That is because business school generally attracts people who are lost, and more people who feel more lost when the bad job market is lousy.

But let’s be clear: This is not the type of recession where there are no jobs for young people. This is a recession where there are no GOOD jobs. McDonald’s is hiring in management. There is a bank teller shortage and a shortage of actuaries. There is a shortage of insurance agents. It’s just that people don’t grow up dreaming of these jobs. So they don’t take them. Instead, people who are early in their career – in that time when an MBA sounds like it might work – those people are determined to have only a good job. And if they can’t have that, they get an MBA.

The problem is that an MBA makes it worse.

Here are seven reasons why you should take a bad job instead of getting an MBA.

    1. Business school won’t help you be a good entrepreneur.

There is no correlation between being a good entrepreneur and going to business school. In fact, according to Saras Sarasvathy, professor at University of Virginia’s Darden Business School, the most important skill for an entrepreneur is that you know your weakness and you can find people to fill in your gaps. So you pay a bundle to go to school to learn what you don’t and how to find people who can do stuff you can’t? Sorry, that doesn’t add up. The ultimate irony: entrepreneur programs are booming at business schools.

    2. You likely don’t need an MBA for what you want to do.

There are some jobs, very few, where you cannot land if you don’t have an MBA. These are mostly high-level officer-type positions in the Fortune 500. Even then, though, you probably don’t need an MBA. In fact, Forbes reports that CEOs without MBAs bring more value to investors than CEOs who went to business school.

    3. MBAs who are not from a top 10 school don’t increase their earning power.

So if you’re not one of the elite, the degree won’t help you earn more. According to the recruiting firm Challenger & Gray, the degree simply does not separate you from other people in any significant way; it’s too easy to get an MBA from a second-tier school. The cost of the degree is so much more than the combined cost of taking two years off of work and paying for the degree that you are better off taking a job you don’t particularly like and getting a night-school MBA after work hours.

    4. It’s pointless after a certain age.

Let’s say you do get into a top-ten school. Don’t go if you are older than 28. You are too far along in your career to leverage the degree enough to increase your earning power enough to make up for the sticker cost of the degree. In fact, it is so important to get the degree early in your career that Wharton and Harvard have started accepting women earlier than men because the biological clock truncates a woman’s ability to leverage the MBA early enough in their career to make it worth the money.

    5. An MBA is too limiting.

You can’t take an entry-level job after you get an MBA, so you had better know what you like to do. And can’t take a job in a low-paying industry because you have to pay back the loans. So not only is an MBA useless for most jobs, but it also makes you unqualified for more jobs that it qualifies you for

    6. An MBA makes you look desperate

Top ten business schools will not accept you unless you have a clear plan for what you will do with the degree after you graduate. You need to have shown that you have a propensity for some sort of business and that you need the degree to get where you want in that business. Unfortunately, most other schools will take you if you don’t have a plan even though it’s been shown that people who go to business school with no plan for their career graduate with no plan for their career. And then you look not just lost, but desperate.

    7. Business school puts off the inevitable.

Look, it’s really hard to be an adult. You go to school for twenty years being told what to learn and what to think and when to show up, and then you get tossed into adult life and there is no one telling you what’s right for you. You have to figure it out, but you didn’t go to school for that. In fact, school is the opposite of that. So it looks fine to be lost in your 20s. This is when everyone is taking time to figure things out. It does not look fine to spend $150,000 to go back to school just to put off the hard knocks of figuring out where you belong in the workforce. Face reality. Join the workforce.
